Jewish Re-marriages

Judaism has always accepted divorce as a fact of life, albeit an unfortunate one. A Jewish marriage is intended to be for life but it has always been accepted that it is better for a couple to divorce than to remain together in a state of constant bitterness and strife.

In order to re-marry, you need to have been granted your Decree Absolute, and Jewish religious law also requires that a Jewish bill of divorce has been issued, as a civil divorce is not sufficient to dissolve the marriage. The bill of divorce is referred to as a "sefer k'ritut" (scroll of cutting off), but is more commonly known as a "get", and as far as Jewish law is concerned, a couple remains married until the woman receives it. You should visit your Rabbi to discuss any concerns regarding re-marriage.
