Finding the Right Style

Finding the Right Style

When you start to look for a wedding dress, make sure you take along someone whos opinion you trust. You will also need to go without any pre-conceived ideas about what you want. You may have always dreamed of walking up the aisle in a fairytale ball gown dress, whereas in reality, that style may not suit you at all, and it's actually an elegant empire line dress that makes you look fabulous.

Be open to recommendations made by the people who work in the dress shops; they have seen hundreds of brides, and have a good idea of what style will suit you. You certainly have nothing to lose by trying on what they suggest.

If you are short with a full figure: Consider a dress that does not cling to you, such as an empire line dress.
If you are pear-shaped: A dress that is fitted on top and loose over your hips will work best, such as the princess style or ball gown. Steer clear of bustles.
If you are heavy on top: Avoid low necklines and dresses that use the natural waistline.
If you have short or heavy legs: Choose a long skirt - a sheath dress will lend you some height.
If you have short arms: Steer clear of sleeveless dresses, and instead opt for a 3/4 sleeve length.
If you have big shoulders: Avoid big puffy sleeves, and draw attention away from your shoulders with a V neckline.
If you are tall and slim: A ball gown style with a strapless bodice would look great on you.
